Fire Sale at Saturn and Pontiac

Saturn and Pontiac are having the equivalent of fire sales right now. Fritz Henderson suddenly resigned as GM's CEO on December 1. He stated that his vision for GM was not the same as the board's and that the time had come to part ways. Since then, acting CEO and Chairman of GM, Ed Whitacre Jr. has taken the company's lead by the horns and sent it on an entirely new route of success. One of the major changes at GM is that the Saab, Hummer, Pontiac and Saturn brands will be discontinued. GM wants all remaining vehicles of these types to be off of their dealers lots and the sooner the better.

Utilizing unorthodox tactics, the General Motors Co. is offering $7000 to every dealer for every new Pontiac or Saturn that is relocated to become part of a service fleet or gets reassigned as a rental vehicle. Sales are expected to soar and the total costs to own one of these vehicles to purchasers will be reduced by as much as 46%. GM representatives made the offer official to dealers, in writing, on December 23. Of course, the dealers can also elect to sell said vehicles they just have to do so on a Used basis as they are the vehicles' first owner. This unique offer to GM dealers is set to expire on January 4 - the final day of December's cars-sold month.

The decision to discontinue Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer and Saab was made as part of the restructuring plan for GM. GM was awarded over $52,000,000,000 in bailout money from the US and Canadian governments. As a result, 61% of GM is owned by the US Gov and another 11.7% owned by the Canadians. And while GM is repaying those loans already to the tune of $1.2 billion monthly, the only way that the governments will ultimately recoup their total investments is for GM to develop long-term, unshakable financial stability. At that point, company stocks could become publicly available and the light at the end of the long, dark tunnel could possibly be found.

It is known that at the beginning of December, dealers for GM had just about 14,500 new Saturns and Pontiacs sitting on their lots. Industry experts project that GM will have sold about 7000 pontiacs and 3500 Saturns throughout December. Given that, there are still about 4000 vehicles left on the dealers' lots. Those are vehicles that the public can receive great deals on Saturn and Pontiac fire sale deals!

While GM continues its restructuring efforts, it will now focus its resources solely on the Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick brand names. And while it is true that excellent savings can be gained at GM's discontinued brand fire sales, it's also true that it's just a great time in general to buy a vehicle. Almost all major automotive manufacturers are offering incredible financing, pricing and service packages right now. There's a big push in the automotive industry to bring in the new decade: 2010. 2009 is so obsolete now it's not even funny. And car dealers everywhere want 2010 models sitting in their lots. So, jump on the opportunity now is the time to save big on new vehicles of all types!
