During the second quarter of Sunday's Super Bowl General Motors will air a 60 second commercial for the GMC Yukon according to a statement issued by the company on Thursday, January 31. The last GM Super Bowl ad was approximately six years ago.
This spot, featuring imagery from an Oscar-nominated short film, Sisyphus, by Marcell Jankovics, an Hungarian animator, shows a person pushing a ball up a slope as a voice over says, "Why push? Why change? Why grow? Why dream?"
Touting the Yukon Hybrid as the company's first full-sized hybrid sport utility vehicle, GM called on its new advertising agency, Leo Burnett Worldwide, to create the commercial. Advertisers for Super Bowl XLII are being charged approximately $2.7 million per 30 seconds of air time.
Other automakers capitalizing on the event include Cadillac with three 30-second spots, one during the pre-game and two during the post-game shows. These commercials by Modernista will feature the Escalade SUV and CTS sedans.
Hyundai will run two 30-second spots by Goodby, Silverstein and Partners during the game for their Genesis model with the intent of positioning the vehicle as one that raises the bar for high-end, luxury sedans. The commercials are part of Hyundai's larger "Think About It" campaign that was launched in September.
