As a more than worthy successor to the Audi TT, the company will debut a new high performance version, the "S," set to go before the public at the Detroit auto show the week of January 15th.
Audi augmented the 2.0T, inline-four engine with direct injection and more turbo boost, achieving 272 hp with 258 lb-ft of torque from 2500 to 5000 rpm.
The resulting acceleration takes the TTS from zero to 62 mph in roughly 5.6 seconds for the roadster and 5.4 for the coupe. In the States, the TTS will be equipped with an S tronic dual-clutch gearbox.
Thanks to the adaptive magnetic dampening system and electronic stability control, the TTS returns superior handling, keeping a good grip on the road with the standard 18-inch wheels and tires. (Nineteen inch optional.)
While the technical specifications are sure to rev the engine of any sports car lover, inside drivers will find deep, bolstered sports seats upholstered with leather and Alcantara. The information display even includes a lap timer for owners who indulge in track events.
As a sports tuned performance vehicle, the TTS joins a model line with a proven 10-year track record of popularity. The 2009 TTS will likely go on sale in the United States by November at a base price of approximately $60,000.
