New CEO for VW of America in September
02:09 p.m. EDT, July 06, 2007

September 1st will see some changes at Volkswagen of America, when Stefan Jacoby arrives to take the reins. Replacing Frank Witter as president and CEO of Volkswagen of America Inc, the holding company for both VW and Audi of America, his job will be to restructure the group's US business, working closely with the German management to expand the positioning of both brands.

Autonews.Com quoted a VW group spokesperson as saying, "If you look at our figures, you will see the US is our biggest construction site." As well, it was stated that while there is concern, that is not a new condition, and while the board feels quick action is necessary, all of their markets are going well.

After a loss of $827 million in North America in 2006, the Volkswagen group expects that Volkswagen, which had its peak sales numbers in 1970, will show flat sales for 2007, but that Audi will break last year's sales record of 90,116 units, break even this year, and possibly turn a profit in 2008.

Stefan Jacoby's current position, which he has held since 2004 is executive vice president for global marketing and sales for the VW group. Before that, he was responsible for the Asia-Pacific region from 1997 to 2001, with the time from 2001 to 2004 spent as CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe.

Johan de Nysschen and Adrian Hallmark, executive vice presidents of Audi of America and Volkswagen of America respectively, will report both to Jacoby and to German brand executives, while Frank Witter will become co-president of Volkswagen Credit, Inc, along-side Kevin Kelly.
