In an article from Reuter.com, Safe Driving Systems of Salt Lake City manufactures a device which provides a simple solution for parents of teens and others to the notoriously dangerous activity of talking or texting on a cell phone while driving. Called the Key2SafeDriving (K2SD), it can effectively prevent the needless loss of life in teens between the ages of 14 and 19 every year due to cell phone use while driving. Other applications for which the device can be employed include public transit and fleet vehicle operators.
The device can be easily installed without tools and can divert all calls to voice mail while the vehicle is in operation. An automatic message is sent to the caller that the user is unable to pick up the line because he is driving the vehicle. While the device is in the call prevent mode, it is still capable of dialing 911 or other emergency numbers which the administrator of the device programs into it.
Highly configurable, the K2SD can be set to operate for multiple users and is compatible with most cell phones. Another feature recently implemented is the ability to transmit travel data from the K2SD transponder to your insurance agency to qualify the driver for safe driver insurance discounts. Cell phone use is the cause of 12 percent of traffic accident fatalities of teens and the rate is increasing by 4 percent per year.
