A recent survey by the AutoVantage Car Club selected the worst and the best cities for impolite, aggressive, and hostile drivers in America. Tabulated annually, this year's worst city for "road rage" is New York City, New York, while the most polite city this year is Portland, Oregon. Miami, Florida was last year's worst city and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was the most polite city.
To help drivers identify rage-inducing behavior, they were surveyed for examples of behavior they thought were likely to cause a susceptible driver to go postal. Among the most irritating were: talking on a cell phone, tailgating, changing lanes abruptly, and eating or drinking. Our responses to these types of behavior can also be rage-provoking, such as: honking, gesturing, and yelling obscenities.
New York, which was number three last year moved up into the number one slot which was vacated by Miami. Some of the most courteous cities include: Seattle, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Portland. The surveys were conducted over the phone and involved 2,518 participants who agreed to take part without incentive.
