The New York Auto Show, which runs through March 30, has provided a platform for a variety of car makers to introduce new models and to demonstrate improvements on existing vehicles including offerings by Hyundai, Pontiac, Mercedes, and Saab.
Hyundai displayed a production ready version of the company's new Genesis Coupe set to launch in 2010 powered by either a 212 hp turbocharged inter-cooled four-cylinder or a 3.8-liter, 306 hp V6. Both engines come standard with a six speed manual while the four-cylinder can be outfitted with a five-speed automatic and the V6 with a six speed.
The Pontiac G8 sedan on display has a huge, 6.2-liter V8 under the hood producing 402 hp and will make 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. From the same company and offering some innovative twists, the Solstice roadster (in both a standard and GXP trims)features a removable targa roof on the coupe, which has no trunk but does offer a small area for cargo under the back glass.
A restyled SL-Class Mercedes-Benz put in an appearance with changes to the grill and hood. Inside, look for an enhanced navigation and stereo unit that includes a 4 gb hard drive with room for as many as a thousand music tracks in the MP3 format.
Finally, Saab brought the Turbo X 9-3 to New York, a vehicle generating 280 hp from a 2.8-liter, turbocharged V6. At 295 lb-ft of torque, the X 9-3 will make it to 62 mph in just 5.7 seconds. Interior amenities include a tabbed LCD interface fiving the driver easy access to music and navigation.
