Nissan Introduces Technology-Packed Infiniti FX50 Aimed at Male Drivers
01:50 p.m. EDT, March 06, 2008

The Nissan Infiniti FX, completely redesigned for 2009, showcases a host of innovative technologies for customers in the U.S. including distance control assist and automatic pre-collision braking.

The FX50's braking system warns drivers of a collision before engaging automatically with a window of response time as small as one second. The distance control monitoring ensures that the vehicle remains at a safe distance from surrounding cars in heavy traffic.

Powered by a 5-liter V8 producing 390 hp, the FX50, unveiled on March 4 and expected to be available for purchase in June, replaces the FX45, a 320 hp unit. A V6 version will be available later in the year.

The incorporation of the advanced technology present in the Infiniti FX50 will play a crucial role in the acceptance of the Infiniti brang in Europe where dealerships will be opening this year with a total of 78 to be online by 2010.

According to a statement by the director for the Infiniti model line in the United States, Jim Detrude, 65 percent of current FX drivers are men, a number that has, at times, exceeded 70 percent. The new model's styling was targeted specifically for this customer base.

"It will be interesting to see how FX and EX play together during their life cycles," said Detrude. "FX is very much a male vehicle. Our mission was to make the next generation even more FX."
