Cadillac will unveil the next addition to its V-Series at the New York auto show, the CTS-V Sport Wagon set to hit showrooms later this year with 556 hp under the hood courtesy of a supercharged, 6.2-liter V8.
The unit that will be on display in New York, however, is being termed a "show car," and is not intended for production. It will serve as a display for outfittings intended for future trim packages. Additionally, the show car will have a distinct rear fascia and upper spoiler.
The cTS line, virtually a sub-brand for Cadillac, which began with a now landmark sedan, will now include a coupe (to be launched this summer) as well as the sport wagon. All versions are now available in "V" editions, with Cadillac leveraging the cTS performance line after the fashion of the BMW "M" models.
The CTS-V Sport Wagon has a 376-cubic-inch engine with roto-cast cylinder heads and a cast aluminum block. Capable of 551 lb-ft of torque, it knocks off the zero to 60 jump in under four seconds. Available as a six-speed automatic or with a manual, the wagon only has about 200 lbs. greater weight than the sedan and shares about 85% of its parts.
The magnetic ride controls have both tour and sport settings. Look for 19-inch wheels, Michelin PS2 tires, and Brembo brakes. Fuel economy is estimated at 14 mpg city and 19 highway. Opening price $61,000; $65,000 fully loaded.
