2009 Audi TTS Review

The 2009 Audi TTS was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show; it was an instant and exciting hit. It isn't really a new vehicle, but it is a carryover that has been significantly redesigned. It has been transformed into the best of the best in the realm of the already-hugely-popular TTS. And for 2009, the TTS will be released as both a coupe and a convertible - an already thrilling vehicle made even more heart-stirring.

Audi follows the philosophy of "Advancement through Technology". The 2009 TTS is based on that philosophy - and it is very evident. The direct injected engine is a modified version of the notorious 2.0L turbocharged TSFI DOHC 16-valve I4 used in the Volkswagen GTI. Modifications include a beefed-up engine block as well as heavier-duty heads and rods. The turbocharger unit is also newly designed and creates 1.2 bar of forced air pressure. That pressure results in a massive increase of 72hp and 51 lb-ft of torque. That brings the totals up to a very impressive (and fun) 272hp and 258 lb-ft or mind-twisting torque. There's also a new intercooler which keeps the air delivered to engine chilled to temps that accommodate maximum flow.

That incredible and ready power is directed to the Audi Quatro AWD system and is able to propel you from sitting still up to 62 mph in just 5.2 seconds. The Audi TTS is not fooling around, folks! If for some reason (like thrill seeking) you fail to remove your lead foot off of the accelerator pedal, the car will electronically top your speed out at an appreciable 155 miles per hour. In the United States, the 2009 TTS will be offered with the S-tronic dual-clutch 6-speed DSG transmission. It is notable that Audi promises that this transmission will accelerate faster than the manual model offered to European consumers.

There is also a new adaptive magnetic system for damping that operates in electromagnetic style on the Audi TTS to allow the driver to choose between a Sport and Standard suspension. In Sport mode, this system lowers the car by a full 10millimeters in order to considerably enhance driving performance.

Further, the 2009 TTS has a lightweight aluminum frontal suspension system that integrates electromechanical steering in order to improve fuel efficiency. It accomplishes this because it does not strip away power from the drivetrain during driving. 17-inch disc breaks are vented and positioned in back of the 18-inch alloy wheels which are standard.

In addition to that aluminum frontal suspension, the 2009 TTS has incorporated various other design standards in order to minimize curb weight. The European coupe weighs in at 3075 pounds giving it power to weight ratio of 11.24 pounds per horse - and the US models will yield an even more impressive number set.

And don't forget that the 2009 Audi TTS is an Audi after all - the company didn't forget to make you comfortable and able to show off many techy devices. Fuel economy numbers and CO2 emission ratings have not yet been reported. MSRPs range from $66,000 up to $70,000 and worth every penny.
