The exquisitely sensible design features of the 2010 Audi A3 steal away your senses immediately upon seeing it. It distinguishes itself from more contemporary Audis with its clever use of high-quality materials, a friendly demeanor towards long hauls, high levels of practicality and very appreciable fuel economy ratings. Having dropped the 3.2L V6 engine option from last year, Audi offers a new turbo diesel engine (TDI) option for the A3 this year.
The new 2.0L TDI optional engine for the 2010 Audi A3 puts out 140 horses at 4200 RPM and 236 lb-ft of torque at 1750. EPA estimations for fuel efficiency are very pleasingly reported at 30 /42 mpg city/highway. Of course, the base engine remains a 2.0L 200hp 207 lb-ft I4 that delivers 21/ m 30pg. It is available with a stock 6-speed manual or optional S-Tronic automatic gearbox. For the TDI option, the S-Tronic is the only choice available in transmissions. Additionally, the 2.0T is available with the Audi Quattro AWD system.
The 2010 A3 from Audi isn't afraid to show off its technological advancements. All trim levels include Bluetooth connectivity, windshield sensors for rain and light, a 2-zone automated climate control system and satellite radio just to name a few stock attributes. Standard safety features include electronic stability control, frontal anti-whiplash head restraints and airbags everywhere you can imagine. Upscale safety features have always been part of the Audi recipe for success - and the A3 continues to deliver excellently.
The previously-optional S-Line Package and a new sporty rear spoiler are now included as standard features on all trim levels of the Audi A3. Continuing to experience competition from the Volvo C30, Subaru Outback, Lexus IS 300 SportCross, Pontiac Vibe and the Scion xB, the 2010 A3 retails for prices ranging between $27,270 and $30,850. It's still proudly showing off its new streamlined exterior design from 2009 - and far more interior spaciousness than one would imagine when viewing from the outside. In fact, drivers and passengers up to 6 feet tall find themselves with plenty of room - even in the rear seats.
Although the 2010 Audi A3 comes off more as a plush, upscale wagon, it has a surprising amount of sportiness intact as well. It accelerates fluidly and creates a pleasing balance between ride quality, performance and responsiveness to the driver's commands. Loads of premium features are stuffed inside its taut design. If there is a downside to it, it's that there has been some sacrifice of cargo spaciousness in order to accommodate a roomier, more enjoyable cabin space. For those who need more cargo area as well as passenger comfort, consider the Audi A4.
