The 2009 BMW 6-Series lineup starts out with MSRPs at $78,200. If you can excuse the rather cold interiors, and the fact that the iDrive system is a bit complex to use, then you may have found the world's most perfect cars. Comprehensively designed with excellent craftsmanship standards, every aspect of the entire lineup is optimal. While the 650i convertibles and coupes have not been changed much since last year, the new GT coupe is amazing to view, and to drive.
Aggressive styling that jumps out at you makes potential buyers emotionally charged and ready to purchase. The price point for this segment dictates that emotion plays a large role in prospective consumer's decisions - and the 6-Series delivers that emotion. Owners associate their own personalities with these cars - and they love to show them off. And even at nearly $80,000 to start, the 6-Series offers very real and appreciable value.
Spacious interiors ride as smooth and quiet as any car could ever be expected to. Performance levels that thrill your senses are also a part of the deal. A singular V8 engine graces both models of the 6-Series: the 650i Coupe and the 650i Soft-top Convertible. These street machines are both based on the same platform as the BMW 5-Series sedans. However, the 6-Series models feature a lowered, sportier suspension system than the Lexus SC for increased handling ability.
Both types of the new 6-Series by BMW are large units. They are beefy rides that somehow handle with the grace of much smaller vehicles. Weighing in at roughly 4000 pounds, they do not quite exhibit the agility of, say, the Porsche 911, but they are still quite remarkable.
Standard features for both types include 18-inch alloy wheels, manual tranny hill-holding technology, fog lights, automatic windshield wipers, panoramic/tilting sunroofs, leather all around, 2-zones climate controls, sensors for parking, high-tech navigational systems, iDrive technology and a lot more. Needless to say, anything in your imagination that isn't already included is optionally available.
The stock V8 delivers a whopping 360 horses and 360 lb-ft of twisting torque from a 4.8L block. A 6-speed manual transmission is the standard while an automatic 6-speed is optionally available. The 650i Coupe went from zero to sixty mph in 5.6 seconds while the convertible is expected to test in the low sixes. Fuel efficiency is adequate at 15/23 mpg city/highway.
The 2009 BMW 6-Series offers an incredible amount of features at a price point that surprisingly sits below those of its competitors. Capable performance, excellent handling, luxurious comfort, bold styling and sky-high resale values make these rides some of the best in the world. Don't cheat yourself from experiencing the excellence associated with BMW's vast knowledge base of automotive mastery.
