The stock 6-speed manual transmission of the 2010 BMW 1-Series is mated to a 3.0L 24-valve DOHC I6 engine that features double-VANOS variable valve timing. The naturally-aspirated 128i trim generates 230 horses and 200 lb-ft of torque. It generates a pocket-pleasing 18/28 mpg urban/rural. The other trim, the 135i, is equipped with twin turbocharging units and cranks out 300 horsepower and keeps a flat torque curve that rates at 300 lb-ft all the way from 1450 RPM to redline levels. Its Valvetronic engine features push-button ignition and electronic throttling control. It's double-pivot strut and spring frontal suspension system works together with a 5-linked rear system that is fully independent. Servotronic power-assisted steering joins in to produce superior ride quality.
All season, run-flat tires surround the 7 x 17-inch light alloy star-spoked wheels of the 2010 1-Series by BMW. It also features a fully integrated spoiler on the rear deck lid for increasing downforce. Other exterior features include free-form foglamps, heated power mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers and heated washer jets that can retract themselves. On the inside, you'll be treated to 8-way adjustable bucket seating in the front as well as a multi-function, telescopic steering wheel; pictogram displaying vehicle monitoring, on-board computer diagnostics and 60/40 split/fold rear seats.
And of course, the 1-Series from BMW for 2010 comes equipped with a comprehensive list of standard safety features. BMW's DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), 4-wheel ABS, automatic brake drying, start-off assist, daytime running lights, electronic traction control, interlocking door anchors and loads of dual-stage airbags are just the tip of this iceberg of safety. Of particular interest to many is the ALR safety system that automatically retracts and locks the 3-point safety belts of all passengers in crash situations. It also features a crash sensor that turns on the hazard signals, unlocks the doors and illuminates the attachments of the LATCH child safety seats.
The 2010 BMW 1-Series 135i has demonstrated an electronically-limited top speed of 155 miles per hour and will shoot you from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just under 5.3 seconds. It is widely believed to be the most affordable vehicle available anywhere that has significant potential on a race track. The ever-improving i-Drive system now controls all HVAC functions, the audio system - and the innovative, yet optional system for navigation. With base model pricing beginning at under $30,000, you will agree that the 1-Series is very difficult to outshine.
