BMW M3

When the BMW M3 was first introduced in 1986, it was intended only for racing purposes. The 195 horsepower four-cylinder engine was inspired by Formula 1 racing, and the two-door coupe ended up winning several races after its release. The first M3 was referred to as the E30, and it featured the classic squared BMW styling with a five-speed manual transmission to complement the engine. Shortly after the model's debut, BMW initiated a mass-produced version of the M3 for the public that was fitted with a 195 horsepower 2.3L four-cylinder, and a Sport trim was equipped with a 238 horsepower 2.5L four-cylinder.

In 1992, an E36 M3 was introduced. This adaptation of the sports coupe had a sleeker build, and it was offered in a two-door convertible or four-door sedan version as well as the original two-door coupe. The power train got a boost with either a 286 horsepower 3.0L I6 or a 321 horsepower 3.2L I6. Buyers could also opt for an automatic transmission with the second generation. Europe saw its own version of the M3 that had improved power options. During the second generation BMW created several limited editions of the M3 that had racing-style additions and more powerful engines.

2000, BMW revamped the M3 again with the E46. The chiseled exterior was swapped for a more streamlined build. This version of the M3 only came with one engine selection, a generous 338 horsepower 3.2L I6. A six-speed manual or a six-speed Drivelogic transmission was offered for the third generation. Buyers could equip their M3 with the Competition Package that included features like 19-inch alloy wheels, high-performance steering, improved handling, and an exclusive Interlagos Blue exterior paint color.

The most recent adaptation of the BMW M3 was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 2007. But, buyers would not get a taste of the vehicle until the 2008 model year. An elegantly styled exterior was paired with an impressive 414 horsepower 4.0L V8. To launch the new version of the M3 (offered in one of three trims: E90, E92, and E93), BMW released a free racing game that simulates the real driving experience found with the M3. Future plans for the BMW M3 have yet to be released, but some media outlets report that the model will soon get another power train boost and an additional limited edition.

BMW M3 has garnered attention from Hollywood with roles in several feature films and television programs. A few of the movies that the M3 has been seen in include Outlaw, The Prince and Me, Mischief Destroy, Blade: Trinity, and Borat. Television shows that have used the model are CSI: Miami, The Bernie Mac Show, Lost, and the reality show Parking Wars.
