The much anticipated 2009 Cadillac CTS was unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show to high acclaim. This latest adaptation has not changed much since the prior year's model, but a few minor features have been upgraded. Nevertheless, the main introduction for 2009 is the CTS-V. This is the higher-end, sportier trim of the CTS and is impressing most of the critics. Mostly, the CTS has received improved technological features and upgraded package options, but overall the biggest change is the addition of the bold CTS-V trim.
The exterior of the 2009 CTS is at once daring and understated, although the Mercury Milan has more sophisticated styling. Crisp lines give the exterior a streamlined appeal, while muscular curves give the sporty sedan a commanding presence. However, the Cadillac CTS does not seem pretentious or overdone. Inside, the same level of quiet comfort can be found as in the prior year's model with leatherette seating, rich wood accents, and front and rear armrests. But, the 2009 model year has brought with it Bluetooth technology, steering wheel paddle shifters with the Summer Package, and a more advanced version of the OnStar program. Buyers get a free one-year trial subscription to the program which features automatic airbag deployment, roadside assistance, and even recommendations for the best restaurant or gourmet grocery store in the area.
Under the hood, potential buyers will be impressed with the powerful 3.6L VVT V6 engine that produces around 263 horsepower and gets about 253-lb per foot of torque. Rear wheel drive comes standard, while all wheel drive is an optional addition. Anti-lock brakes, rack and pinion steering, and 4-wheel independent suspension are features that have made this sedan a favorite among both critics and buyers. The CTS comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, but for buyers that are looking for a bit more ease of driving, a 6-speed automatic is also available. With an estimated 17 city MPG and 26 highway MPG, the Cadillac CTS stands out in the crowd of high-powered luxury sedans.
The newest 2009 CTS-V trim gets a massive engine boost with 6.2L supercharged V8 that produces an impressive 556 horsepower. The multi-link independent rear suspension gives the CTS-V a sportier feel, but has the smooth ride of a luxury model. And if speed is what a buyer is looking for, the Cadillac CTS-V can go from 0-60 mph in only 3.9 seconds.
Overall, the 2009 Cadillac CTS is generously equipped and smartly styled. However, the CTS-V definitely steals the show. With a base price of $34,780, the CTS is competitively priced with comparables and is a good choice for families looking for a little bit more in a sedan.
