If you are in the market for an affordable vehicle with a look that brings back memories of a time when cars were much built more like tanks than their modern-day equivalents, the 2008 Chevrolet HHR may be the right choice for you. There has been an interest lately in bringing back retro car designs, like the Chrysler PT Cruiser and others. The HHR immediately attracted interest for its rebellious design and desirable features.
The latest version of the Chevy HHR hasn't changed much from previous offerings. Still, buyers will be pleased to know that OnStar service is now offered as a standard feature on all models, and a new option for 2008 is stability control.
You can choose from either a two or four-door model on the HHR for '08. If the four-door wagon is what you are interested in, you will need to choose between a couple of different trim levels. If you decide to go with the LS, you will be getting air conditioning, cruise control, an audio system featuring six speakers, and 16 inch steel wheels.
Going with the upgraded LT package means that you will need to make a choice between two options: the 1LT and the 2LT. The 1LT offers an enhanced stereo system, upgraded wheels, and a power driver seat that can be positioned eight ways. If you choose the 2LT, you will be giving your new wheels a much sportier look, since this package includes color-keyed running boards, chrome accents, and a steering wheel wrapped in leather with audio controls.
With its roomy interior, the 2008 model HHR appeals to the consumer who doesn't want to feel cramped while driving. The passenger compartment isn't the only place where you find extra room in this model. The HHR also gives purchasers plenty of trunk space - almost 24 cubic feet when the back seat is up! This should be enough to meet the needs of most people who are looking for a vehicle in this class.
While choosing the HHR will give you an attractive ride with plenty of leg room and trunk space, this model does have its drawbacks. This vehicle's handling and brakes can be described as lackluster at best. Perhaps the new HHR SS (to be introduced later this year) will be an improvement, as it will feature a 260-HP engine, as opposed to the current offerings of a 2.2 Liter 149 hp 4-cylinder or a 2.4 Liter 175 hp 4-cylinder engine. Still, for a MSRP of $16,515 - $22,710, you are getting a lot of good features here.
