The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size class family sedan with the feel of a luxury car, but without the price to go with it. It has been redesigned this year to put it at the front of the pack in this class of cars in style, looks and performance. It has laminated glass and other features to sound proof the interior of the Malibu, making it one of the quietest rides around.
The 2008 Malibu is offered in the LS, LT, LTZ and hybrid models. It also comes in 2 different sized engines: a 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder and a 3.6 liter, 6 cylinder with variable valve timing. Be prepared though, the hybrid model is a "mini-hybrid". There is practically no difference in the fuel economy between it and the base 4-cylinder model.
- The hybrid gets 24 mpg in city, 32 mpg on the highway.
- The 4 cylinder gets 22 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.
- The V6 is more of a gas-guzzler though, with only 17 mpg in city and 26 mpg highway diving.
The standard features of the Malibu include an automatic transmission, remote keyless entry and much more. Depending on the model you choose, the standards vary, but the LT and LTZ especially deliver on the feel of luxury. Both have a long wheel base and handle nicely.
The safety features of this 2008 redesigned car includes the On-Star program free for the first year you own the vehicle, anti-lock disc brakes on all 4 wheels and traction control. The 6 air bags to protect the front seat passengers of this vehicle cover every scenario. The frontal airbags even have sensors to determine whether they should deploy fully or not.
Additional air bags protect against head, neck and chest injuries from side-impact crashes. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Malibu provides good protection to its passengers in the front seat and average protection for those in back.
The Malibu features sleek lines and attention to detail. Panel gaps have been minimized to give the car an even sleeker look than before. There are touches of chrome throughout, even on the door handles to add a touch of sophistication.
This model's competitors include the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. These two vehicles have dominated the mid-size market for several years; however, the Malibu is closing in on them quickly. The manufacturer's suggested retail price starts at just $20,295, making it a great deal.
With a 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance and more, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu has a lot of benefits for buyers in price range. The advantages and extras for this price, combined with the fuel savings, are inspiring a lot of people to give this vehicle a second look.
