2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD Review
If I said, "Find me a truck that has excellent towing capacity, ample interior space, and off-road capability," would you suggest the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD? Well, you should. Chevrolet's 2008 version is bigger, badder, and accessorized more than ever. Basically, the Silverado 1500 is a monster of a pickup. It comes with almost every available feature on the market and still out-performs most of its competitors. Don't forget, there is another 1500 out there, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD, that stands tall as well. Of course, if a consumer is looking for a truck that gets excellent gas mileage, they would do best to look elsewhere. However, what would one expect in such a gigantic beast of a truck? At this point in the world's technological advancements, a buyer cannot ask for a massive truck that gets 50 MPG. It'll be quite a while before that hits the market.
The Silverado comes in many trims to fit each buyer's need. The short box versions vary from the LS, the LT1, the LT2, and the LTZ. While the lower LS trim level comes with a 4.8L V8, the LTZ is equipped with a 5.3L V8. Also the LTZ gets 20 more horsepower than the LS. The LTZ is also available with a fuel system that accepts ethanol-based gasoline. So, while the gas mileage is nowhere near perfect, Chevrolet has made an attempt to curb a buyer's spending at the pump. The LT1 trim comes with the standard 4.8L V8, but it still gets a decent green rating of 48. A green rating calculates a vehicles environmental friendliness on a 1-100 scale. A 48 for a heavy-duty truck is quite impressive.
Chevrolet Silverado's 1500 Work Truck trim is its cheapest version with a base MSRP of $27,752. Though it lacks some of the frills that the other trims have, the Work Truck gets along just fine without them. What construction worker or plumber do you know that just absolutely has to have dual temperature control and lighted vanity mirrors? I'm assuming not many. However, those same construction workers and plumber might be happy to know that XM Satellite radio is standard, and an MP3 player jack is installed in the stereo system. So, anytime they feel the need to indulge in some Howard Stern or play their latest download, they'll have the opportunity to do so in their Work Truck. Also, with a standard 1629-lb payload and a 7000-lb towing capacity, any driver that needs to get equipment or supplies from point A to point B with be thrilled.
Need a truck that looks good, sounds good, and performs even better? Well, the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD is the truck that can meet those needs. Its standard features blow the roof off its competitors. As always, Chevrolet has proven that it sets the standard in power and performance. Say hello to the toughest truck on the road.
