The 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Dually 2WD is one of the biggest trucks on the market. The Dually is equipped with four massive tires on its rear axle. This way hauling and towing is safer and more stable. The 2WD version does not provide as much versatility as the 4WD, but it is more than enough for the full ton truck. Chevrolet has outdone itself yet again with this year's model of the Silverado 3500, a heavy duty pickup that has a bold and powerful presence on the road.
The Silverado 3500HD Dually 2WD comes standard with a 6.0L V8 engine that produces 353 horsepower, more powerful than the Dodge Ram 3500 with a Cummins Diesel. For the loads that this truck can haul, 353 horsepower is a necessity. If buyers do not think that this engine is good enough, they can upgrade to an even more impressive 6.6L Duramax Diesel V8 Turbo engine that reaches 365 horsepower. Those that are constantly hauling and towing large loads will benefit more from the engine upgrade. The Dually features either 17-inch steel or chrome wheels, and has a stainless steel exhaust system that will prevent rust and corrosion. Unfortunately, the 3500 is not rated for fuel economy, so buyers will just have to have faith that prices will decrease at the pump. The 3500 can tow around 11,400-lb and has a payload of 4,979-lb. So, the Silverado 3500 can handle almost any load imaginable.
The exterior design leaves a bit to be desired. Presumably, Chevrolet does not believe that heavy duty truck drivers want a lot of frills. However, embellishments are not always bad, and the Silverado 3500HD could sure use some. Simple lines do not make the Silverado look humble, it simply appears bare. The plain grille does not add a streamlined quality to the truck; rather, it appears boring. Though chrome accents do add a bit of flair, the 2008 Silverado Dually is still lacking the panache it needs to truly garner the attention it deserves.
Priced starting at $29,430, the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Dually 2WD is competitive with its competition. Buyers will have to decide for themselves if the poor styling is an influential factor or not. Not only that, if a buyer does not need to haul and tow items almost every day, this truck may not be the best choice. Overall, the Silverado Dually 2WD is a pretty impressive truck but it might not be impressive enough for the savvy consumer.
