2009 Chevrolet Equinox Review
The 2009 Chevrolet Equinox is a carryover from the previous model year, and Chevrolet did not leave any of the attractive features behind. Inside, expect spacious seating for up to five passengers, a number of standard features, and plenty of storage space. The 2009 Equinox also has a wealth of safety features that helped it get a five-star frontal and side-impact crash test rating from the NHTSA. Also, the Equinox can be upgraded with several different accessory packages.
The Chevrolet Equinox is powered by either a 185 horsepower 3.4L V6 or a 264 horsepower 3.6L V6. Potential buyers should like the availability of two engine choices, but they might be disappointed that the upgraded six-speed automatic transmission is only available on the Sport trim. Nevertheless, the four other trim levels get a five-speed automatic with Adaptive Learning Capability. This feature basically creates an intelligent transmission that can automatically adjust to whatever the crossover demands at any given time. Also, with 17 city MPG and 24 highway MPG, the 2009 Equinox has admirable fuel economy in the crossover category.
Inside, standard features range from power door locks to the famed OnStar system. The purchase of a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox includes a free one-year subscription to the service, which includes remote door unlock, automatic airbag deployment response, and stolen vehicle location assistance. Not only can the OnStar program be a convenience, it can also potentially save an occupant's life. Other safety features included vary from an anti-lock brake system to child safety belts in the rear row seating.
Some accessories that can be added to the 2009 Chevrolet Equinox include tire splash guards, tubular side steps, a trailer hitch package for any towing needs, and a remote vehicle start system. One of the most innovative accessories is the roof or hitch-mounted ski carrier. Obviously, the mounting system can carry skis, but it is also adaptable for four bicycles or several snowboards.
With an intro MSRP of $23,555, the 2009 Chevrolet Equinox is an affordable buy for a young family or individual. With its significant number of standard features, buyers really get their money's worth with the Equinox. Not only that, families with young children can rest assured knowing that the 2009 Equinox exceeds most safety standards. However, some buyers might not be impressed when comparing the Equinox to several other American crossovers on the market, like the Ford Flex or Dodge Nitro; both of which have bold profiles that stand out from the crowd.
