2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 2WD Review
The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 2WD is a solid pickup that can be purchased in a number of bed and cabin variations. With an affordable purchase price and generous power, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is a good pick for those looking for a truck to haul and tow or simply ride around town. With several packages available, the Silverado can be customized with each driver's personal touch. A three-month trial subscription to XM Satellite Radio adds an entertainment feature not seen in most basic, heavy duty pickups. However, some buyers could be disappointed that fuel estimates are not available for the model.
Inside, the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado is equipped with dual glove boxes for extra storage. This is a convenient addition for those using the Silverado on the work site, and the full width rear bench seat on the extended and crew cab versions provides a comfortable ride for passengers. Two auxiliary power outlets allow drivers to recharge electronic devices quickly and easily, while an available rearview camera system makes backing up safer than ever. Also available is Bluetooth connectivity so that drivers can make and take phone calls completely handsfree.
Under the hood, the Silverado 2500HD 2WD is fitted with a standard 360 horsepower 6.0L Vortec V8 engine, but buyers can opt for a 365 horsepower 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel V8 if desired. Both engines have a generous amount of power, but without fuel ratings it is difficult for a potential buyer to calculate possible fuel costs. A HydraMatic six-speed automatic transmission is standard, while the diesel engine is paired with an Allison 1000 Series six-speed automatic. This Allison transmission features a tap up/tap down mode in which drivers can manually shift the model. The Silverado 2WD can haul up to 3,924-lbs and tow an impressive 15,800-lbs.
The 2500HD 2WD includes the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System which corrects oversteering, helps prevent rollovers, and will apply the brakes during emergency braking situations. The OnStar program is also included with the Silverado for one year, but buyers will be required to pay a fee for continued service after the trial subscription. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, a tire pressure monitoring system, and driver and front passenger airbags are included as well.
In general, the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 2WD is a rugged, powerful pickup. Nevertheless, those searching for luxury additions will need to look elsewhere. For impressive towing capabilities, the Silverado 2500HD can't be beat. With an intro price of $25,445, this model is affordable and well worth the money. However, potential buyers should be aware that many of the Silverado's features are considered extras, so the MSRP can climb pretty quickly.
