With the added payload stability of it 4-wheel rear axle, the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Dually 2WD carries heavy loads straight and level.
In the beginning, the Chevrolet Silverado was known as the high-end trim level of their C/K pickup brand. However, as years passed and the trim became more popular, Chevrolet decided to make the Silverado a standalone model in 1999. Sharing a platform with the GMC Sierra - commonly viewed as the luxury version of the Silverado - the full-size pickup did not gain the 3500 trim until 2001. It was then that the one-ton model became known as the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. The dually feature was available from its inception. This refers to the rear quad wheels that provide extra support and stability for heavy loads. While the 2WD version is not quite as popular on this heavy duty model, it has gained popularity in recent years with the increase of private consumer purchases. Because the majority of consumers do not need the Silverado for a great deal of off-road use, the 2WD version has become a popular pick.
With three powerful V8 engine selections, the 3500HD Dually 2WD has long been considered one of the most commanding trucks on the road. Also, a potential 360 horsepower makes a great impression on buyers and critics alike. Several transmission options have been available since the model's inception in 1999 - two manual transmissions and three different automatics.
Equipped standard with all of the latest in technological advancements, the Silverado 3500 has recently garnered attention for its inclusion of the OnStar program. Featuring roadside assistance, instant accident alerts, and airbag deployment sensors, a one-year subscription to the system is provided with the purchase of the 3500HD. However, some have criticized the turn-by-turn navigation services that come with OnStar, claiming that it is misleading because the directions are actually supplied by a live OnStar representative, rather than digital directions on a touchscreen.
While the Silverado is scheduled to be released with a hybrid trim for the 2009 model year, it is unclear whether the 3500HD Dually 2WD version will get the "green" treatment. Some consumers and critics are concerned that if the heavy duty model gained a hybrid trim, then it would lose a significant amount of power; however, Chevrolet has stated that with the hybrid technology comes equivalent power.
Thought of as an American standard, the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Dually 2WD has been featured in a number of blockbuster films and television shows. Consumers can expect to see several Silverado Hybrids in upcoming T.V. programs and movies as well.
