The exact date of the introduction of one of Chevrolet's full size SUVs, the Chevrolet Tahoe, can be complicated to explain due to what has become known as "rebadging" or badge engineering in the automotive industry. The high costs of engineering and designing a totally new model of vehicle and the time it can take to gain public acceptance has prompted many car manufacturers to "rebadge" a single vehicle. Such was the case for the Tahoe, which was introduced in 1994 and was actually a rebadged, or ever so slightly different version of the full size Chevrolet Blazer.
Since its introduction, the Tahoe has become a popular vehicle for law enforcement personnel in rural areas that are more difficult to maneuver in automobiles typically used for police work. Chevrolet introduced the Police Tahoe in 2007 as a vehicle that had been configured with law enforcement use in mind. Differentiating the Police Tahoe from the retail version of the Tahoe is the improved handling package that includes enhanced front and rear suspensions capable of handling police loads, as well as a unique electrical system that facilitates the installation of police radios and light bars. With the Chevrolet Impala being used for years as a police vehicle, it was a significantly wise decision for Chevrolet to use the same design platform for the electrical system in the Police Tahoe as is used in the Impala to make upgrades easier and less costly for those who determine the budgetary guidelines for new or replacement police vehicles.
For personal or family SUV use, the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe delivers a safety rich vehicle in four trim levels, including a hybrid model, with plenty of comfort and convenience features. The Vortec 5.3 liter V8 engine with active fuel management helps keep the cost of gasoline within reason by deactivating 4 of the 8 cylinders when they are not necessary, such as when the vehicle is cruising down the highway. Yet, when power is what you need, the Tahoe seamlessly returns to 8 cylinders to climb and tow with ease.
2012 Chevrolet TahoeWith 10 different colors to choose from and moderately priced at just $38,530, consumers should have no problem hopping into one of these family-sized SUVs. The exterior sports subtle yet impressively stylish lines. The large rear windows allow for maximum visibility while in the cabin. This is especially helpful in providing maximum safety for the driver, as are the standard daytime running lights. A keyless remote entry system adds to the overall convenience provided by Chevy. Heated mirrors and all-season tires allow for the Tahoe to handle nearly anything those harsh winters can toss at it. Traction Control coupled with Electronic Stability Control should provide the driver with the peace of mind to know that whether the Tahoe is on the paved city streets or the beaten path, this SUV is equipped to handle the job. The stylish grille has a honeycomb design and dual bi-xenon headlights. The front bumper also has built-in tow hooks. Surprisingly this SUV has some pretty serious heavy-duty capabilities. It’s not just for soccer moms.
