2008 Dodge Magnum Review

The 2008 Dodge Magnum, a performance wagon, is refreshed and more stylish from last year, with chrome accents, crosshair grille, and fog lamps. Surfaces feature a soft-touch material and there are optional LED lighting features for your cup holders. You also are presented with the option of a SIRIUS Backseat TV that comes with a 1-year membership to the SIRIUS satellite video service. To top off the changes from last year's Magnum, this 2008 Dodge sports a new functioning hood scoop, trendy headlights, a new gauge grouping and SRT-exclusive Reconfigurable Display (RCD) which provides the driver with instant feedback on 0-60 acceleration, 60-0 braking, g-force, and lap time.

In the Wagons class, the 2008 Magnum slides in nicely at about $5000 less on the MSRP scales as do its competitors ($23,420 vs. $28,079). It will take you slightly less of an average per gallon distance (18 vs. 18.98 mpg for the comp.). It rates above average in cargo room offering 27.2 cubic feet as compared to the average 26.17. Its wheelbase is 12 inches larger than its competitors and it is also 12 inches longer from nose to tail.

There are six trims to choose from: Base, SXT, SXT AWD, RT, RT AWD and the SRT8. For the six trims, there are four different engines. The Base trim comes with a 2.7L 190hp V6; the SXT and SXT AWD come with a 3.5L 250hp V6; the RT and RT AWD come with a 5.7L 340hp V8 and the SRT8 grants you the power of 6.1L 425hp V8 whish is actually quite impressive for a vehicle in the wagon class. The Base trim and the SXT come stock with a 4 speed automatic overdrive tranny, while the other trims have a 5 speed auto-over.

NAV systems are optional on all trims except for the Base. The Base trim also offers no options for sunroofs or leather seats which are optional on the SXT and SXT AWD and standard on the other trims. The Base trim does have optional power seats. Standard on all trims are air conditioning, power locks and windows, CD players and traction control systems. All trims except for the Base also come with standard ABS and stability control systems. Those features are optional on the Base trim.

Although the reliability ratings are below average, consumer reviews are impressively high. This new Dodge Magnum is creating some serious consumer loyalty. The wagon looks sporty and feels capable. The optional all wheel drive features offer peace of mind to the vehicle's family-based purchasers. Driver, passenger and side airbags are stock on all trims as well.
