2009 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD Review
The 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD boasts a new engine selection, the classic, aggressive exterior, and adaptability for all types of driving conditions. Buyers will be pleased to know that the Ram 1500 can now be equipped with Dodge's signature HEMI engine, and an updated braking system has the ability to reduce brake pad wear and improve the pickup's fuel economy. Available in regular, extended or crew cab versions and with either a short or long box, the Ram 4WD is highly customizable to fit each driver's unique needs. This pickup gets reasonable fuel economy and has an affordable intro price. Although the 1500 is not considered a heavy duty pickup, it has impressive towing and hauling capabilities.
Under the hood, this 4WD pickup can be fitted with either a 310 horsepower 4.7L V8 engine or a powerful 390 horsepower 5.7L V8 HEMI VCT. Variable Cam Timing has electronically controlled hydraulic valves which can improve the engine's overall performance, decrease fuel consumption, and even reduce exhaust emissions. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims. With 8,600-lbs of towing capacity and over 1,600-lbs of hauling capacity, the Ram 1500 4WD can handle almost any load. 17-inch aluminum wheels are included on the lower trims, while the Laramie Quad Cab gets 20-inch aluminum chrome clad wheels. Fold-away power heated side-view mirrors are an excellent addition for the winter or for those that live in consistently cold climates. A trailer towing package is also fitted onto the model with a 7-pin wiring harness and a 4-pin connector. With 13 city MPG and 18 highway MPG, the 2009 Ram is comparable with other pickups on the market, but it cannot compete with those that have flex-fuel capabilities.
Inside, the Ram 1500's higher trims include a power-memory driver's seat, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, as well as nine premium speakers with a subwoofer, and a uconnect phone system that allows for Bluetooth handsfree calling. A Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System is included on all trims. This unique feature has an engine immobilizer that will automatically disengage the engine if a break-in is detected. The keys are equipped with a unique code that prevents any other keys or tools from starting the model. Electronic Stability Control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and multi-stage front airbags are all standard as well.
In general, the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD is a commanding pickup that does just as well off-road as on the pavement. With an intro price of $25,725, the 1500 is one of the most affordable 4WD trucks on the market. Those looking for all the extras will find that the Laramie trim is full of amenities, while the base trim gets a good dose of modern flair as well.
