2008 Ford Fusion Review
The 2008 Ford Fusion has an MSRP range from $17,700 to $24,000 and comes in seven trim levels. The four-door, five-passenger sedan opens as the I4S which has a 2.3-liter I4 generating 160 horsepower. Expect to get 23 mpg around town and 31 on the highway with the standard five-speed manual. (Automatic optional.)
Go all the way to the top of the line, to the V6 SEL AWD and you're looking at a 3-liter V6 producing 221 horsepower. With that engine, gas mileage is 19 city and 26 highway on the standard six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
The Fusion joined the Ford line in 2006. Size wise, this sedan sits right between the compact Focus and the full-size Taurus. For the most part the 2008 edition carries over from 2007, but there are some refinements. For instance, both ABS and a system for monitoring the pressure in the tires are now standard. Both features augment an already comprehensive airbag and safety array protecting both driver and passengers.
The biggest buzz has focused on the inclusion of the new Sync communication and multimedia system powered by Microsoft. The handsfree technology controls everything from mobile phones to MP3 players and features both voice commands and buttons mounted on the steering wheel.
Other new features for the 2008 Ford Fusion include keyless entry via a keypad and ambient lighting for the interior configurable to seven colors. A Sport Appearance Package will add a black chrome grille, 18-inch wheels, chrome exhaust tips, sport-tuned suspension, and sharp-looking red seats.
