2010 Ford Edge Review
A middle-sized sport utility crossover, the 2010 Ford Edge comes in your choice of seven different trim levels: the SE, SEL, SEL AWD, Limited, Limited AWD, Sport and Sport AWD. MSRPs range between $26,635 and $36,605. It presents you with better handling abilities compared to truck-style SUVs - and nearly as much room for hauling cargo as well. Comparatively, it weighs 500 pounds less than a new Explorer. As a result, its fuel efficiency is superior to the tune of between two and three MPG. Its fuel economy ratings are 17/24 MPG city highway.
The 2010 Edge sees competition from the Honda Pilot, the Chevrolet Equinox, the Mitsubishi Endeavor and the GMC Acadia. It is less expensive than all of them in terms of base model pricing. It is provided power by a 3.5L 265hp DOHC V6 engine, that when matched up with the stock 6-speed automatic overdrive transmission, produces 253 ft-lb of torque. All trims come standard with front-wheel drive, however all-wheel drive is available on all models besides the base SE.
On the road, the Ford Edge handles quite nicely, especially considering its relatively large size and weight levels. Overall vehicle dimensions are 185.7 x 75.8 x 68.0 inches in terms of length, width and height. The GVWR for the 2010 Edge is 5300 pounds - right in the middle of the segment. It features a 1011-pound payload rating which falls within a couple of 100 pounds of its competitors in either direction. It rates higher than the majority of its competition in terms of luggage volume at 32.2 cubic feet. It has been designed with a high gravity center and that allows you to cruise quickly through corners with minimal body lean.
The 2010 Edge by Ford has loads of impressive safety features that come standard even on the base trim. Frontal, side and side curtain air bags (known as the Ford Safety Canopy System), electronic driveline traction control, occupancy sensors, remote keyless entry, a panic alarm and the SecuriLock engine disabling system are just a few of the standard safety features. If you want to spend a little more, your options for safety, luxury and entertainment are almost unlimited.
The 2010 Ford Edge is spacious and comfortable. Seats that fold fully open up a huge cargo area. Its engine/transmission combo provides sufficient gumption for all driving situations. Its look is bold and rugged, yet quite appealing. It presents surprising amounts of responsiveness and driving dynamics. Owners of models from previous years report high levels of customer satisfaction. The edge was introduced in 2007 and has continually increased its fan based since then. If you're in the market for a sport utility crossover that drives almost as well as a full-sized luxury sedan, then definitely check out the new Ford Edge.
