Engine options include the standard 2.9 liter I4 producing 185 horsepower or the 3.7-liter I5 generating 242 horsepower. The Canyon can handle towed loads of as much as 4,000 pounds and will handle payloads of up to 1,547 pounds. Fuel consumption is estimated at 16 to 20 mpg city and 22 to 26 highway.

Safety features include running lights for use during the day and comprehensive double stage air bags covering occupants in the front. These bags and those in the curtain position for side collisions (on all rows) are controlled by sensors to detect severity of a collision.
