GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD

The GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD is the direct counterpart of the Chevrolet Silverado. Both went into official production in 1999 as the newest line of full-sized pickup trucks from the General Motors Corporation. General Motors has been manufacturing pickup trucks since 1930.

In 2007, the Silverado/Sierra pickups from General Motors became the second largest selling production pickup in the United States - right after the Ford F-Series pickups. When combined, they actually sell more than the Fords do.

Throughout their histories, Silverados and Sierras have remained predominantly unchanged. The Sierra perceived as a Silverado with higher grade features. Presently there are very few differences between the engines and equipment presented by Silverados and Sierras.

The Sierra Heavy Duty (HD) pickup trucks are stronger versions of the Sierra light duty trucks and are available in 1500, 2500 and 3500 models. Both the 2500 HD and the 3500 HD offer an available Duramax V8 that delivers 360 horsepower at 3000 rpm as well as 650 foot-pound of torque at only 1600 rpm. There is also an optional Vortec 8100 V8 that cranks out 340 horsepower at 4200 rpm and 455 foot-pound of torque at 3200 rpm. These engines are combined with a 5-speed transmission known as the Allison 1000. The main difference between the 2500 HD and the 3500 HD is the chassis. It is considerably stronger and allows for increased towing and hauling capacity.

The GMC Sierra 3500 HD 2WD pickup truck can tow up to 16,700 pounds and carry 5,511 pounds. Interestingly, the addition of 4WD decreases both of those numbers by between 400 and 800 pounds. The 3500 HD continues to be a favorite for construction companies and people who have large boats and/or recreational vehicles that they tow frequently. Fuel efficiency ratings for the 2009 Sierra 3500 HD 2WD are not reported and there's really no need for it; they would rate very low. These trucks are made for power and solid performance, not great gas milage. The Sierra 3500 HD 2WD serve its owners faithfully year after year, looking stylish and providing surprising luxury for a full-sized pickup.

There have been very few notable changes in design and performance standards over the years since the inception of the trucks, nor are any planned. Of course, there have been minor detail changes in both the exterior and interior designs to keep them looking fresh, but nothing major. There is no doubt that the GMC Sierra 3500 HD 2WD will continue to be a great seller as well as the Chevrolet Silverado. These trucks continue to be a stable component of American culture.
