Though the 2008 Honda Odyssey has an attractive front end with a 6-sided grille and a wraparound front fascia, it has not kept up with current styling trends as have other 2008 minivans, including the Nissan Quest. The interior offers three-row seating for up to seven passengers. Also, while most manufacturers are making handsfree phone access standard, the Odyssey only makes it available on higher trim levels. XM satellite radio, a navigation system, and rear-seating DVD player are also only options on the higher trims.
It does come standard with a 3.5L SOHC VTEC V6 engine which produces 244 horsepower. However, that is really the smallest engine that can run the full-size minivan. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been installed, and stability assist in all probability prevents rollovers. The estimated MPG are 16 city and 23 highway - not exactly impressive numbers in an economy that is preoccupied with saving money at the pump. One thing that those on the green train will appreciate is the ULEV-2 CARB emissions rating. Also, a standard safety feature is the Immobilizer Theft Deterrent System that can, in some cases, prevent the minivan from being stolen. The 5-speed automatic is standard minivan fare.
If an individual is looking for a run-of-the-mill minivan, Honda should definitely be able to meet those needs. The 2008 Honda Odyssey boasts nothing out of the ordinary for the minivan market. However, if a buyer is looking for impressive fuel economy, superior styling, and technological upgrades, they would do better to look elsewhere.
