The 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe is unchanged from last year, continuing to offer the adaptability of an SUV with the fuel economy and handling of a sedan. The mid-size CUV's strong suits are its contemporary styling and affordable price.
The Santa Fe is offered in three trim styles: GLS, SE, and Limited. The highest trim, the Limited, offers luxurious features that are not available on the lower trim levels. Leather seats are a classy addition to the Limited interior. Also, heated front seats and a power driver seat are a bonus in the Limited. You can also find an Infinity 7-disc CD player with 10 speakers inside of the Limited edition.
All of the trims feature a tire-pressure monitoring system, keyless entry with an alarm element, airbags throughout, and electronic stability control for extra rollover protection. A 5-speed manual is standard in the GLS. However, both the SE and Limited come with optional 4-speed or 5-speed automatic transmissions with the Shiftronic feature. The SE and Limited both also have shiny 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. While you'll find a 2.7L V6 in the GLS, the SE and Limited feature a 3.3L V6. The SE and Limited also each get 226 horsepower.
The Santa Fe also has a long list of safety features. Anti-lock brakes come standard on all trim levels. Active front head restraints lessen whiplash injury to the driver and front passenger in the event of a collision. Also, a traction control system provides more protection during inclement weather. Not to mention that the Hyundai Santa Fe was the Top Safety Pick for IIHS in 2007.
Though the GLS is priced at $21,150, the buyer will still get all the amenities expected in a stylish crossover vehicle. The 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe gets an excellent 17 city MPG and 24 highway MPG. Though the mileage is not comparable to that in an economy car, it surpasses other crossovers on the market. Its streamlined body and interior upgrades put it in a class of its own. The Limited edition's aluminum roof rack adds an extra touch of ruggedness to an already refined crossover.
