The 2008 Jeep Wrangler remains true to its serious off-road image, delivering a fun to drive Jeep available in 2 and 4-door versions that feature supreme off-road ability and open air freedom. Simply put, if you can't get there in the Jeep Wrangler, you probably can't get there on 4 wheels. It is still built for a very loyal niche adventure seeking market that is primarily concerned with conquering mountain trails with ease and less concerned about comfort on long rides, but for the Wrangler is more refined, feature full and versatile than previous generations. The 2008 Jeep Wrangler was completely redesigned for the 2007 model year and receives only minor equipment changes for 2008 that include the addition of a new Sahara appearance package for both 2 and 4-door versions and a standard Sunrider soft top for the Wrangler Sahara and Rubicon trims.
The 2008 Jeep Wrangler is a compact SUV with a convertible top. There are 3 primary trim levels, the X, Sahara and the Rubicon, all of which are 2-door styles that can be upgraded to the Unlimited status, which turns them into extended wheelbase 4 door models - the only true 4 door convertibles on the market. The X comes standard with removable half doors with plastic windows, while the Sahara and Rubicon come with full doors and glass windows. Half doors are optional, if desired, for the Sahara and Rubicon. The Wrangler X does not have too many comfort and convenience features, other than an AM/FM/CD stereo with auxiliary audio jack, though option packages are available and include features such as air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and door locks and a 3 piece hard top or soft top with sun roof. The soft top with sunroof, labeled the Sunrider top, is standard on the Wrangler Sahara trim. The options for the Sahara include 18 inch alloy wheels and a navigation system. The Rubicon comes with all the features standard on the Sahara but also includes drivetrain upgrades, a disconnecting stabilizer bar and off road BFGoodrich tires. Moving up to the Unlimited style adds room for 5 passengers and more cargo space.
Each version of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler is powered by a 202 horsepower, 3.8 liter V6 mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that provides to all 4 wheels, with the exception of Unlimited models, which can be purchased in either 4 wheel drive or rear wheel drive. A 4 speed automatic transmission is also available as an option. Although not exceptionally speedy, the Unlimited can go from 0 to 60 in about 10 seconds.
The 2008 Jeep Wrangler includes some fanciful features such as a windshield that can be folded forward onto the hood and doors that are easily removed, and 10.2 inches of ground clearance and short wheel base that help to make it easy to attack canyons and deep woods excursions. If that inspires you, there is no other vehicle on the market that will satisfy. However, if you are looking for comfort and convenience, you might want to check out other alternatives - this one is strictly for unending fun and frolic.
