2008 Kia Spectra5 Review
The Spectra5 SX trim is representative of the 5 door wagon style version of the Kia Spectra lineup and offers an impressive list of standard safety and convenience features, excellent gas mileage and a large cabin that will accommodate 5 passengers and an just over 18 cubic feet of luggage. Although the 2008 model remains unchanged, at a base price of under $17,000 it is hard to match the functionality and fun to drive factor found with the 2008 Kia Spectra5 SX.
The sole Spectra5 SX trim comes with a great deal of standard features that include 16 inch alloy wheels, a sport tuned suspension system, fog lights, tinted glass, a rear spoiler, power door locks with remote entry, power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, a leather wrapped tilt steering wheel, and a 4 speaker AM/FM/CD player with 2 door mounted tweeters. Options include the addition of an in dash CD changer with MP3 capability and a power operated sun roof.
The 2008 Kia Spectra5 comes with a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine that produces 138 horsepower that is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission - a 4 speed automatic transmission is optional. The EPA estimates fuel consumption for a Spectra5 SX with an automatic transmission at 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, and its 14 gallon tank capacity will provide slightly less miles per gallon with the manual transmission.
As with most vehicles manufactured by this Korean automaker, the primary accolades of the Spectra5 are the economical price and excellent gas mileage. The quality of the interior materials is mediocre, but the ride is pleasant enough, handling is startlingly nimble, acceleration is adequate enough to run daily errands and the interior is remarkably comfortable for the driver and 4 members of family and friends. For those on a budget looking for a 5 door hatchback/wagon style vehicle, the 2008 Kia Spectra5 is definitely worthy of consideration.
