The 2008 Kia Spectra is available in either a sedan or 5 door hatchback version that offers great gas mileage and a functional and comfortable interior. Power is ample enough to get through the daily grind and pass slower cars in the right lane. Its sporty looking exterior might hint at more power under the hood than there really is, but for most seeking an affordable compact sedan or hatchback, looking fast is probably more important than actually being fast and power is adequate. There are no significant differences between the 2007 and 2008 Spectras.
The 2008 Kia Spectra is available as a sedan or hatchback, which is designated at the Spectra5. The sedan is available in LX, EX and SX trims. The Spectra5 hatchback is only available in SX trim. The base model LX is for those looking to save the most on sticker price and is only equipped with the bare necessities, but the EX has air-conditioning, full power, keyless, and other premium interior amenities. The sportier SX version upgrades to 16 inch alloy rims and larger tires and adds a sport tuned suspension, fog lights, a rear spoiler, leather trim, cruise control, and premium interior treatments. You can opt for a sunroof or CD changer.
All Kia Spectra's are front wheel drive, with power provided by a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine that produces 138 horsepower. The standard powertrain configuration includes a 5 speed manual transmission, with a 4 speed automatic transmission optional for all models with the exception of the LX sedan. EPA estimates for 2008 are 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway with the automatic transmission.
A simply designed and functional cabin with good build and materials quality highlight the interior of the Kia Spectra. The seats are comfortable and the storage cubbies and cup holders are generous in size. The 2008 Kia Spectra represents a commendable blend of comfort, spaciousness and safety features. The long 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty is definitely a plus, and with a base price of under $14,000, auto shoppers on a tight budget are well advised to take Spectra out for a test drive.
