2010 Kia Optima Review
The 5-passenger, front wheel drive 2010 Kia Optima is a tough competitor in the midsized sedan market one of the most versatile in the entire automotive industry. 3 trims are available: SX, EX and LX. You also have your choice between 2 engines on SX and EX trims. The base engine is a 2.4L DOHC 175hp (@ 6000 RPM) 169 lb-ft (@4000 RPM) 4-cylinder that delivers 22/32 mpg urban/rural. Optionally, a 2.7L 190hp (6000 RPM) 184 lb-ft (4500 RPM) DOHC V6 is available that delivers 20/28. All trims feature a 16.4 gallon fuel tank that capacitates travel in excess of 350 miles per fill up. The standard transmission offered is a 5-speed manual and a Sportmatic 5-speed auto is optional. The Optima carries over into 2010 with few changes made.
Top-of-the-line SX trims feature a suspension system that has been tuned for spirited performance, headlights that are blacked out, "hyper-silver" 17-inch alloy wheels and a sporty mesh grille. Standard safety features on all trims include:
- Electronic traction and stability control systems;
- 4-wheel ABS;
- Tire pressure monitoring;
- And more...
The NHTSA reports 5-star safety crash test ratings for frontal impacts with the 2010 Optima by Kia. Retail pricing ranges from $17,995 up to $22,795 with great loans available. Almost every element of the Optima is surprisingly well done. Nothing seems cheap or easy to break. With the accuracy of a modern aircraft cockpit, the interior space of the Optima is virtually seamless. All levers and hand grips glide into position with spring-based dampening motion. Everything is soft to touch with an elegance level most often reserved for far more expensive vehicles.
On the outside, you will find 189.0 inches of overall length, 71.1 inches of width and 58.3 inches of height. A 107.1-inch wheelbase provides excellent balance for the 3157 pound of curb weight. On all trims, the ground is cleared by 6.3 inches. Stepping inside, you will find 40 inches of headroom (38 in rear), 57 inches of shoulder room (56 in rear), 55 inches of hip room (55 in rear) and a really impressive 43.7 inches of legroom (37.8 in rear). 15.0 cubic feet of luggage capacity exists in the trunk and the Optima features standard seating for 5 adults. All of this room makes the Optima require 17.7 feet of radius for turning.
The 2010 Kia Optima offers prospective buyers a lot of dependability, room and comfort at very attractive price points. The class is a tough one to compete in and the Optima definitely stands its ground on all levels.
