2008 Lexus GS 450h Review
The 2008 Lexus GS450h is equipped with a customized version of the Lexus Hybrid Drive System that has resulted in a premium midsize sedan that achieves V8 style acceleration, the fuel efficiency typical of 6 cylinder engines and exhaust emissions usually associated with an eco-friendly 4 cylinder. The Lexus hybrid engine operates seamlessly and provides a quiet ride. Both the interior and exterior are crafted of high quality materials and feature an outstanding fit and finish. Successfully bridging the gap between 'green' and ' performance', the Lexus GS450h is a force to be reckoned with and it also achieves better gas mileage than would be expected for a midsized sedan. In conjunction with Lexus' other GS sedans, the GS450h receives minor upgrades for the 2008 model year that include new front fascias, restyled gauges and the addition of side view mirror integrated turn signals. The attractive ' Black Opal Mica' was also introduced as a new paint color for the GS450h this year.
Its extraordinary 340 horsepower is just one of the strengths of the Lexus GS450h. The 3.5-liter V6 engine, in combination with a high output electric motor, provides power seamlessly to the rear wheels through a continuously variable transmission. As is typical of hybrid technology, the GS450h uses the electric motor and will engage the V6 engine as necessary. However, what is uncharacteristic of a hybrid is the Lexus GS450h's impressive acceleration-from a standstill or when midrange passing is required. This hybrid sedan can go from 0 to 60 in just over 5 seconds and the gas/electric hybrid powertrain achieves admirable EPA ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 25 mpg highway.
The 2008 Lexus GS450h represents the flagship of the Lexus GS lineup. It comes standard with a full compliment of premium luxury features including 18 inch wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, a sunroof, adaptive suspension dampers, heated and cooled leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, interior wood trim accents, Bluetooth technology, a back-up camera, keyless start and a 10 speaker audio system with in-dash CD changer and auxiliary audio jack. There are only a few options to choose from that include a navigation system, satellite radio, active anti-roll bars, a rear spoiler and an outstanding 14 speaker Mark Levinson audio system.
There seem to be no significant disadvantages to 'going green' with the 2008 Lexus GS450h. Overall, its combination of performance and luxury is quite impressive, which is unusual for a hybrid. Consumers looking for maximum driving force with minimal fuel consumption in a truly chic package should be more than satisfied with the GS450h.
