2008 Lexus GX Review

The 2008 Lexus GX 470 may not have had any significant changes or additions for the 2008 model year, but this midsize sport utility/crossover vehicle offers the premium dealer service and luxuries associated with the Lexus brand as well as an excellent resale value.

The stiff rugged truck based platform might prove to be a little too rugged for some, but for a niche market of rough riding drivers and their passengers, the GX 470 offers more comfort, passenger and cargo space that smaller SUV's. The 2008 Lexus GX 470 comes in just one trim level and it is nicely equipped. Standard equipment includes 17 inch alloy rims, power operated and heated side view mirrors, back-lit running boards, power adjustable and heated front seats, dual zone automatic climate control, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and an astounding 11 speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with in dash CD changer and auxiliary input jack. Popular options include a navigation system and a rear set entertainment system.

Power is provided by a 263 horsepower, 4.7 liter V8 engine that is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the GX 470 can tow up to 6500 pounds. EPA estimates are slightly below average with ratings of 14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

Even though the truck type construction is somewhat evident in the handling, the steering is fairly responsive and nicely weighted. The 2008 Lexus GS 470 is worthy of consideration by those who are seeking more luxury than functionality and will not disappoint as there are only a few mid size SUV's/crossovers that offer so much luxury for a base price of under $47,000.
