2008 Lexus RX 400h Review
Available in front wheel drive or all wheel drive, the 2008 Lexus RX 400h is the gas/electric hybrid powered version of the Lexus RX's premium mid size SUV lineup. Featuring a luxuriously appointed cabin and all around excellent build quality and refinement, the RX 400h is capable of V8 power acceleration at V6 fuel economy levels. Despite the fact that there have been no significant changes or additions for the 2008 model year, the RX 400h is one of the few hybrid SUV's available today that is capable of reaching up to 30 mpg using only electric power which enables it to conserve fuel exceptionally well-especially when driving in bumper to bumper commuter traffic. EPA estimates for the 2008 front wheel drive version come in at an admirable 27 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, and only a smidge less for the all wheel drive versions, which makes the fuel consumption ratings for the RX 400h competitive with many 4 cylinder gas engine SUV's that do not provide as much room or luxury.
The RX 400h is only available in one very well equipped trim level that is available with either front or all wheel drive. Standard features are highlighted by 17 inch wheels, a power-operated rear lift gate, keyless entry, privacy glass, full power accessories, brushed aluminum interior accents, luminescent gauges, dual zone automatic climate control, second row seats that recline as well as slide forwards and backwards and an 8 speaker AM/FM/CD stereo with in dash CD changer and steering wheel mounted audio controls. Many options are available a la carte or can be purchased as conveniently bundled packages such as the Premium Options Package that provides amenities such as leather trim seats and a sunroof.
This eco-friendly hybrid vehicle combines electric motors and a 3.3 liter V6 gasoline powered engine. All wheel drive versions come with three electric motors to provide additional power to all 4 wheels, while the front wheel drive versions come with 2 electric motors that work to start the vehicle and enhance forward motion effectively and efficiently. The RX 400h will sprint from 0 to 60 in just over 7 seconds with either powertrain and is capable, when properly equipped, of towing up to 3500 pounds, which is very commendable for a hybrid vehicle of this size and weight.
