2009 Lexus IS-F Review

The 2009 Lexus IS-F has been freshened for this model year. With a new instrument panel and new interior color combinations, the IS-F sees only minor changes, but the overall elegance and generous drive train capabilities have been kept the same. This four-passenger luxury sedan has a sporty appeal that most buyers will find impressive. A wealth of interior features with several optional accessories and packages allow consumers to make each 2009 IS-F their own. While the sports sedan is well worth the money, some buyers might find it difficult to shell out for the high asking price. Also, those looking to make less of an impact on the environment will the IS-F's fuel economy subpar.

Under the hood, the Lexus IS-F is fitted with a generous 416 horsepower quad-cam 5.0L V8. With 371-ft lb of torque buyers can expect more power than most other luxury sedans on the market. And, with 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, consumers will have no problem in a street race. Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Intake Valve Timing allow the IS-F's engine to control the exhaust intake to better conserve fuel. However, at 16 city MPG and 23 highway MPG, the four-door model can certainly be beat by comparables. The eight-speed Sport Direct-Shift automatic transmission makes shifting super smooth and quick, and drivers can manually control the gear shifting if desired as well. The Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system lets drivers click into Sport mode for high-performance driving needs too. Borrowing the suspension from the IS 350, the IS-F has superior handling and a smoother ride than most.

Inside, this 2009 Lexus is jam packed with goodies. Leather-trimmed sport seats are both comfortable and stylish, while the aluminized composite trim adds a bit of flair to the interior. Power adjustable mirrors, 10-way power front seats with heating, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a Start/Stop push-button ignition are all standard. One of the most unique features in the IS-F is the HomeLink Transceiver that connects drivers to their garage door, lighting, security, and even gating systems. A voice-activated navigation unit with Bluetooth technology is available as an upgrade, as well as a premium Mark Levinson sound system. Some buyers could be disappointed that this model does not come with a standard nav unit though.

Safety features in the Lexus IS-F include Traction Control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Brake Assist, front and rear crumple zones, and a theft-deterrent system with engine immobilizer. This security system will automatically disengage the engine if a break-in is detected. The IS-F also provides buyers with handy first-aid and tool kits.

On the whole, the 2009 Lexus IS-F is an impressive piece of machinery. With exceptional power and an elegant, sporty exterior the sedan is the whole package. Nevertheless, the $56,000 intro MSRP will put a large number of buyers instantly out of the running. And, with the purchase price some consumers will certainly expect more to be included with the standard model.
