2011 Lexus CT 200h

Posted: 06/20/2011 - 1:00 PM ET

When it was originally released, the 2011 Lexus CT 200h was the luxury brand's latest hybrid. It was created to compete with the Volvo C30 and the Mini Cooper Clubman, though both of those vehicles have conventional gas-only power systems.

According to Lexus, the 2011 CT 200h is an offspring of the LF-Ch concept car that debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show in the fall of 2009, and the actual car - a four-door hatchback with 17-inch wheels - is actually fairly similar to the concept vehicle, at least in looks.

Inside the 2011 Lexus CT 200h, you'll find seating for five, with bucket seats in the front that are separated by a wide center console. Metal trim and faux leather are standard, but real leather is available as an option. Other standard features include a tilt/telescoping steering wheel (audio controls are mounted upon it), a CD stereo with ports for both a USB drive and an mp3 player, and Bluetooth streaming capability, as well as a power driver's seat with the ability to remember preferred settings.

Optional interior features (in addition to the afore-mentioned real leather) include a navigational system with a backup camera and a moon roof.

The standard safety features on the 2011 Lexus CT 200h include pretty much what you'd expect - a full complement of airbags (including knee bags in front), antilock brakes, and electronic stability control. Available as an optional upgrade is a "pre-collision system" that tightens the front seatbelts and prepares the brake-assist feature to improve stopping power if a crash seems imminent.

The CT 200h is powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.8 liter engine married to an electric motor/generator that combine to provide 134 horsepower. There are four performance modes for drivers to choose from: Sport, Normal, EV, and Eco, which latter also modifies the car's air conditioning system to consume less fuel. Conversely, the Sport mode changes the charge/assist meter into a tachometer.

Estimated fuel efficiency for the 2011 Lexus CT 200h is 43 mpg in the city, and 40 on the highway. The base MSRP is $29,120.

Some friends say Lexus is not that good but I guess it depends upon on how you take good care of your valuable things. It's fuel-efficient, I think its cool. - Marla Ahlgrimm
