2009 Lincoln MKS Review
The 2009 Lincoln MKS sports an elegant design and generous standard features. This luxury four-door sedan's price has been lowered for the 2009 model year in an effort to appeal to a younger audience; however, the base MSRP of around $38,000 might be a stretch for buyers with the current flattened economy. The exterior only sees minor changes, while the interior gets a complete redesign with a contemporary flair. Though the 2009 MKS looks like a classic Lincoln, the technological features and modern styling accents give it a push into the future.
With only one engine choice, potential buyers might be a bit disappointed; nevertheless, the 3.7L 24-valve V6 produces a powerful 270 horsepower and 265-lb foot of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift comes standard on the MKS as well. SelectShift is an integrated transmission system that provides smoother, easier shifting for a more controlled driving experience. Front-wheel drive is also standard on the 2009 Lincoln, which will provide better traction and vehicle stability. With 17 city MPG and 24 highway MPG, the Lincoln MKS is competitive with other luxury sedans on the market, but the maker has failed to improve the fuel economy in a market clamoring for extraordinary gas mileage.
An innovative feature incorporated into the 2009 MKS is the Securicode Invisible Keypad. Built directly into a black area of the upper driver's door, this keypad lights up when touched and offers owners ease of entry when keys have been misplaced or drivers simply do not want to root around to find their keys. SYNC Exclusive Voice Technology in the MKS allows drivers to communicate with their car just by speaking. Phone calls can be taken while driving just by saying the word. Stereo settings can be changed just be telling the car to do so as well.
Taken as a whole, the 2009 Lincoln MKS is a well-designed luxury model, but the manufacturer's goal to appeal to a younger buyer might not be successful. With the current influx of trendy Euro-inspired models being marketed directly to the younger crowd, the MKS's traditional styling could be too mature and minimal for this group. As a result, the older market will most likely be the primary buyers of the newest Lincoln MKS. Also, though the price has been lowered for this model year, the 2009 MKS is still a bit pricey for most potential younger buyers. Even most families might have a hard time swinging the cost of this luxury model.
