2009 Lincoln Navigator Review

The 2009 Lincoln Navigator is one of the largest eight-passenger SUVs on the market, compared to the Mercedes-Benz GL Class. With the Navigator L, the model gains over twenty cubic feet of cargo space, and the length gets an almost an additional fifteen inches. The regular Navigator is packed with standard features, but its fuel economy is exceptionally poor, even with flex-fuel capabilities. Nevertheless, the 2009 Navigator is fully loaded with safety additions that protect all the passengers in collisions and the vehicle, itself, in the event of a break-in. While the intro price is high, the Navigator is well worth the money.

Inside, buyers can expect convenient features left and right like steering wheel-mounted audio controls, power windows and locks, dual-zone electronic automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. This innovative mirror will dim when a harsh glare appears so that drivers might have improved rear visibility. Two auxiliary power outlets make it easy to recharge electronic devices, and power-adjustable pedals convert for a taller or shorter driver. An optional in-dash navigation unit is available, as well as leather-trimmed seating and a power moonroof. A six-disc in-dash CD changer is included, and buyers can upgrade to a rear seat DVD entertainment system with a remote control and wireless headphones.

Safety features include AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Roll Stability Control assists the vehicle in the event of an accident or loss of control with staying upright, and a driver's door keypad makes entry that much easier. Dual-stage front airbags sense the force of impact and deploy accordingly so that further injuries are not sustained, and side curtain airbags protect the second and third row passengers. A perimeter alarm is also included and will sound if a break-in is attempted.

Under the hood, the Navigator is equipped with a 310 horsepower 5.4L V8 and a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine is fitted with flex-fuel capabilities, which allows drivers to use E85 gasoline, a cheaper, cleaner burning fuel. However, the estimated fuel economy is still subpar at 14 city MPG and 20 highway MPG. 365-lbs per foot of torque is more than enough to get this model going, and a tow package can be added which will allows the model an impressive 9,000-lbs of towing capacity.

Overall, the 2009 Lincoln Navigator is a powerful, sizeable piece of machinery. However, those that don't need the space will want to look elsewhere. Priced at around $51,130, a large number of buyers will find the SUV unaffordable. But, large families will appreciate the spacious interior and impressive safety features.
