The 2009 Lincoln Town Car is a carryover from the prior model year. This four-door luxury sedan features generous power, sophisticated additions, and an elegant exterior. However, with only one engine and one transmission choice available, buyers could be drawn more to the competition. Nonetheless, with flex fuel capabilities, the 2009 Town Car has a leg up on its comparables. Though a great number of safety and entertainment features come standard on the Town Car, a few of the most current items are missing from the list.
This full-size sedan is fitted with a 4.6L SOHC FFV V8 that generates up to 239 horsepower. FFV refers to Flexible Fuel Vehicle, which means that the Town Car can run on E85 fuel. This fuel both saves the driver money and burns cleaner than regular gasoline. In a time when environmental friendliness is a top priority, the FFV is sure to be a bestseller. Even with the flex fuel capabilities, the model still only gets 15 city MPG and 23 highway MPG - not nearly as remarkable as some of the available hybrid models. However, with only a four-speed electronic automatic transmission available, some buyers might be underwhelmed. But, the 287-lbs per foot of torque surpasses many other luxury sedans on the market.
Inside, the 2009 Town Car is fully equipped with an automatic dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable acceleration and brake pedals with memory, leather seating, and power windows and locks. Another feature is a universal garage door opener. This opener can be programmed to open and close each owner's garage door. An optional trunk organizer that includes netting dividers can be added as well.
What's most impressive about the 2009 Lincoln Town Car is its incomparable safety features. A tire pressure monitoring system, anti-theft security program, airbag protection for all six passengers, and an anti-lockout system all give the Town Car a level of protection not seen in most base models. High intensity discharge headlamps provide the driver with a clearer view of the road ahead and also produce less of a glare for oncoming vehicles.
An Audiophile sound system, complete with a six-disc in-dash CD changer, is standard in the Town Car. However, the luxury sedan does not have MP3 capabilities or a DVD player available. The contemporary buyer might look to a more modern sedan because of the lack of updated entertainment options.
Base priced at around $45,815, the 2009 Lincoln Town Car is simply overpriced. Without current technological features, no amount of flex fuel will cover the gaping hole. However, a large family looking for an elegant sedan will find a good match with the Town Car. But, those that do not need the space should look elsewhere at the many other more compact sedans that get higher fuel economy.
