2009 Mazda Mazda6 Review

2009 Mazda Mazda6 Review

The 2009 Mazda Mazda6 received a complete overhaul this year featuring a sleek profile, an upgraded engine, and even a decrease in price. This makeover model is available as either a four-door sport sedan or four-door family sedan style with Kia Spectra appeal. A great number of upgrades are standard on the model, and even the stance has been widened, so that the Mazda6 looks like a completely different car for 2009. Not only was the Mazda6 due for an overhaul, the maker was also persuaded to change the model because of a lack of buyer interest. However, the new look, new engine, and general revamp is sure to generate attention.

One of the biggest changes for the 2009 Mazda6 is the more spacious interior. By increased the width and length of the model, Mazda was able to provide a more comfortable ride for its passengers. Five adults can easily fit inside the Mazda6. The cargo space was also enlarged, giving the new Mazda6 the best storage space in its class.

Under the hood, a standard 170 horsepower 2.5L DOHC four-cylinder with VVT is available, while buyers can also upgrade to a 3.7L DOHC V6 with VVT that generates up to 272 horsepower. The engine choices have gotten a boost and so have the transmission selections. Potential buyers will be happy with the choice of either a six-speed automatic sport transmission that features manual mode or a six-speed manual. Manual mode allows drivers to change the transmission over to a manual style for better control when driving conditions demand it. Also, this four-door sedan has an estimated 21city MPG and 30 highway MPG. Though the fuel economy is fair, many other sedans on the market are far superior, which might be a major turnoff for potential buyers.

With the number of features included in the Mazda Mazda6, buyers will be hard pressed to find a better equipped model for 2009. Dual-zone climate control is standard on the i Grand Touring and s Grand Touring trim levels, while steering wheel mounted audio controls are included in all seven trim levels. With so many trim levels, every buyer will be able to find exactly what they need in the Mazda6. A power moonroof is available as an upgrade, as well as a DVD-based navigation unit, Bluetooth capabilities, and a Bose Premium Centerpoint Surround Sound audio package.

Though the 2009 Mazda Mazda6 was given a facelift this year, it still doesn't quite stand out in a crowd. There are no unique exterior features that set it apart from other standard sedans on the American market. However, with an intro price of $18,550, buyers might look past its lack of individuality. Both singles and small families will find the Mazda6 to be a good match, but buyers that are looking for a luxury model should look elsewhere.
