2009 Mercury Mariner Review
The 2009 Mercury Mariner is a four-door sport utility vehicle that has a bold profile. The 2009 Mariner is a carryover from the prior year's model, but buyers should not be disappointed because the SUV continues to bring both style and performance to the mid-size SUV experience. With a wealth of available options, the Mercury Mariner can also be customized to fit even the most demanding buyer's needs. Also, the 2009 Mariner is affordably priced, making it one of the most appealing American SUVs on the market.
Under the hood, the Mariner is powerfully equipped with either a 171 horsepower 2.5L I4 or a 280 horsepower 3.0L V6. A hybrid edition of the model is available as well with a 2.3L I4 Atkinson Cycle engine with an electric motor. While the base model gets an estimated 20 city MPG and 26 highway MPG; however, the Mariner Hybrid has an EPA estimated 34 city MPG and 30 highway MPG. That puts the Mariner Hybrid in the running as one of the top fuel efficient SUVs on sales lots. Also, with a standard four-speed automatic with overdrive and an optional eCVT (electronically controlled continuously variable transmission), the potential buyer should be satisfied with the choices.
The 2009 Mariner's exterior leaves a lasting impression. With a muscular, but elegant appearance, the Mariner is impeccably designed. Four different wheel styles are available, and a roof rack with crossbars can be added to allow for sports equipment and luggage transport. Ten varying packages can be added to the Mariner like the Heated Package that includes heated front seats, steering wheel mounted audio controls, and heated side view mirrors. Another package can add a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and even increased towing capabilities. But the biggest addition is the VOGA Package. Buyers will get 17-inch chrome wheels, cashmere leather trimmed seating, and a moss green exterior paint, among many other upgrades.
Overall, the 2009 Mercury Mariner is a solid American SUV that gives buyers the ability to give the model their own personal touches. Many younger buyers are looking for vehicles that allow them to express their individuality, and the Mariner certainly acquiesces. With a base MSRP of $21,925, the model is comparably priced with other SUVs. However, with the number of upgrades available, buyers can expect to add a significant amount to the base price, most likely making it higher priced than other models. Nevertheless, these upgrades allow smaller families to get a Mariner that fits their family perfectly.
