Stylish and economical, the 2009 Mercury Mariner merits a fuel efficiency rating of 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, handily outdone by its hybrid sibling with a rating of 34 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

With new exterior styling for 2008 and an up-to-date interior including aluminum accents and ice blue dashboard lighting, the Mercury Mariner is looking sweet for the coming model year.

The designers remembered every amenity on the 2007 Mercury Mariner, from the satin pewter accents to the MP3 jack.
Mercury joined the ranks of manufacturers offering compact SUVs, albeit a tad later, with its 2005 introduction of the Mercury Mariner. Sharing the same fundamental platform and components found in the Ford Escape, which had been successful for quite a few years, the Mariner differed mostly in aesthetic appeal and comfort.
Initially available in one trim style, appropriately named Convenience, the Mariner was equipped with a 2.3 liter inline 4 cylinder engine with automatic transmission and available in either a front wheel drive or an all wheel drive version. This compact SUV had an attractive sticker price, room for 5 passengers and an ample cargo area. It was more than capable for lightweight hauling and limited off road driving, but this vehicle really excelled at making every day transport needs with a crew and their stuff comfortable and practical yet stylish.
2006 brought forth additional models that were equipped with 3.0 V6 engines to deliver more power for those who wanted more muscle as opposed to fuel efficiency. The Convenience, Luxury and Premier models were all available in either all wheel drive or front wheel drive. The distinctive exterior included attractively subtle rocker moldings and a typically good looking Mercury style front end. Elegant looking metallic trim strategically positioned within the cabin enhances the interior nicely. Mariner sales have not been tremendous, but it is a great vehicle for those who want to make a stylish statement while enjoying a smooth ride, associated more often with mid size sedans, and the low purchase price.
There were no significant changes to the 2007 Mercury Mariner other than the increase in warranty coverage to five years/60,000 miles. Still priced affordably and available as Convenience, Luxury or Premier models in all wheel drive or front wheel drive with either a 2.3 4 cylinder or 3.0 V6, the Mariner continues to compete in the compact SUV world, bringing with it a hint of lavishness and luxury without an astronomical sticker price.
