The exciting-to-drive, high-performing 2010 MINI Cooper presents driving enthusiasts everywhere with an unconventional combination of engineering, design and attitude. It is available as either a 2-door hatchback or a convertible and features a 1.6L inline 4-cylinder engine that whips out an adequate 118 horses at 6000 RPM and 114 lb-ft of torque at 4250. This engine is an all new product resulting from the combined efforts of BMW and Peugeot. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard equipment while a 6-speed automatic is optional. MINI Coopers are front wheel-driven and require a modest 17.5 feet of turning radius. Both body styles also have an 816 pound payload capacity. Take note that the Cooper S trim is turbocharged and has been reported to deliver 172 ponies and 177 lb-ft of twist.
The 2010 Cooper hatchback curb weight is 2568 pounds while convertible models weigh 3561. Outside dimensions measure 145.6 inches in length, 66.3 inches in width and 55.4 inches in height. The small wheelbase measures only 97.1 inches and sails above the ground at 5.5 inches. On the inside of hatchback trims, you will find a standard seating for four passengers with 39 inches of headroom (38 rear), 50 inches of shoulder room (45 rear) and 41.4 inches of legroom. Rear passengers may feel somewhat squashed with only 39, 39 and 29.9 inches of head, shoulder and leg room respectively. If you are a large person, or have large passengers that travel with you regularly, you may want to consider a different vehicle altogether. MINIs are not exactly touring sedans and feature only 5.7 cubic feet of luggage capacity.
Carrying over from 2009, the MINI Cooper for 2010 features few changes. 4-star safety ratings have been awarded from the NHTSA and the list of optional safety features includes:
- Dynamic Traction Control;
- Head/thorax side airbags (convertibles only);
- Powered sunroofs;
- OnStar automatic crash response;
- Single button push emergency help;
- Remote door unlock;
- Stolen vehicle slowdown;
- High tech navigation systems;
- Vehicle diagnostics;
- Parking proximity sensors;
- Bluetooth wireless connectivity;
- Satellite radio;
- And loads more...
Prices for the MINI Cooper 2010 start at $18,800 and rise up to $24,250. The small engine delivers a very appreciable 28/37 mpg urban/rural and actually provides a surprising amount of pep. It's quite spirited; when you push on the accelerator, you're going to know it. Competitors like the Scion xB have a difficult time keeping up, especially off the line. MINIs are designed for fun driving experiences coupled with irresistible appeal. BMW is also happy to offer you a large selection of options for:
- Upholstery styles;
- Interior materials;
- Accent panels;
- Ambient lighting;
- Colors;
In summary, you'll find the 2010 MINI Cooper a very sprity performer that people just can't help smiling at. Regardless of the options that you select, you're going to be presented with excellent value. Definitely some of the most unique vehicles ever created, MINI Coopers are hard to beat in terms of economical, fun driving experiences. Have a thrill test driving one today.
