The all new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has been manufactured to compete directly with the 2010 Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. The Evolution classification is representative of a sports edition for the Lancer. It ranges in price from $33,590 up to $40,990. This current version, called the "Evo X" by aficionados, is the 10th in 16 years. Since the "Evo IX" of two years ago, the vehicle has gained 300 pounds. It has also gained 5 horses, and 11 lb-ft of torque. The result is very little, if any, forfeiture of performance.
In addition to powertrain modifications, the Lancer Evolution by Mitsubishi for 2010 has also received an upgraded interior. The most notable modification includes a 30GB HDD optional system of navigation that allows the storage of various maps and up to 6GB of audio files. And, when the vehicle is not in motion, that same system will play high-definition video on its 7-inch screen. Front bucket seats are also included with groundbreaking in-seat side airbags.
Underneath the hood of the Mitsubishi Evolution, you will find a very adequate 2.0L 291hp (6500 RPM) 300 lb-ft (4000 RPM) inline 4-cylinder engine on any of the three available trims: the GSR, MR and MR Touring. All versions are 4-door sedans that are all-wheel driven. A 14.5 gallon fuel tank is included on each. GSR trims are EPA-estimated for fuel economy at 16/22 MPG while the other two trims deliver one extra mile per gallon of fuel spent in the cities. All versions also require 19.4 feet of radius for turning.
The AWD system of the 2010 Evolution from Mitsubishi is seriously impressive. It utilizes data collected from YAW sensors to consider the angle of the steering wheel, the opening ratios for throttling, individual wheel speeds and multi-directional vehicular motion in order to dictate differential limitations. What this means is that there is an advanced computerized system that optimally delivers power to individual wheels according to what it perceives that driver's desires to be.
The 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is quoted to be "very easy to drive very hard". It sounds exciting because it is. It just seems to know what drivers want to do and when they want to do it. If it has any drawbacks it all, it would be the limited 6.9 cubic feet of luggage space. However, everybody knows that you do not buy an Evo X to haul luggage in. Yeah, it has four doors, but don't let that fool you.
