2009 Nissan Altima Sedan Review
With MSRPs starting out in the high 19,000s, the 2009 Nissan Altima sedan continues its 4th generation of exceptional sales, optimal safety and superior drivability. In 2007, the beginning of the current generation for the Altima, it received accolades such as the AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Award and the J.D. Power APPEAL Award. It is classified as a premium midsized car - and it continues to set sales records and broaden its enthusiastic customer base.
Fuel economy ratings for the largely unchanged carryover from 2008 weigh in at 31/23 mpg highway/city (4-cylinder models). There is also a gas/electric hybrid Altima sedan that delivers a very respectable 33 mpg - in the cities! That gives it a fill-up range of over 600 miles. Nice. The hybrids are also classified as AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology - Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles) and are currently marketed in California, New York, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Vermont.
Strong performance, sleek looks and luxurious comfort are all packed into the 2009 Altima sedan by Nissan. Besides the hybrid version, there is also 4-cylinder and V6 models available. The 4-cylinder delivers surprising power and enhanced fuel efficiency from its 2.5L 175hp engine while the 3.5L 270hp V6 adds punch and power for the owners who are willing to stop at the pumps a little more often. With either engine selected, a 6-speed manual transmission completes the drive train. Optionally, a Continuously Variable automatic transmission further optimizes fuel efficiency and power, yet isn't quite as smooth and exciting to drive.
Nissan Altima owners are people who love to drive. The Altima instills much confidence and allows the driver to truly connect with it. It's very predictable and solid- even in the worst of weather conditions. The suspension system is not soft at all, but it is also not at all harsh. The seating is roomy and comfortable - made for both short and long journeys.
Nissan has worked well to ensure a bug-free dash assembly. It's laid out comfortably and features controls, storage compartments and gauges just where they should be. The assembly craftsmanship and quality of the materials presented are very pleasing. Exterior styling is likewise above average although not exaggerated.
The Nissan Altima for 2009 has earned another 5-star safety rating from the NHTSA for both driver and passenger front end collision tests. Standard safety features include 4-wheel ABS braking with electronic brake force distribution. The Nissan Advanced Airbag System, active head restraining devices, tire pressure monitoring and electronic stability control also come to mind. And of course Nissan has provided a long list of optional feature packages to entice you into spending a little more. Everything from Bluetooth to navigation to heated seats and more is available.
The sharp-looking, responsive, safe and efficient 2009 Nissan Altima sedan is available right now for your driving pleasures. It continues to forge its personal path as one of the most respected and sought after premium midsized cars on the planet. It's a sure bet for long-term owner satisfaction, solid resale values and family safety.
