The 2009 Nissan Murano is the next generation of the midsize crossover that almost defined the segment when the Murano first appeared in 2003. This year, the Murano has undergone considerable exterior softening. Sporting a more powerful 3.5L 265hp V6 engine which generates 248lb-ft torque, the Murano converts that power into pure performance. All of this year's changes are intended by Nissan to keep Murano out in front of the very competitive midsize crossover market.
The interior of the Murano offers increased quality in materials and abundant technological features. Speaking of which, the new GPS navigation is touch-screen and voice command operated. An 11-speaker Bose audio system will keep the van rocking and the rear-view video camera will keep things safe while backing up.
The new Nissan Murano is available in three trims, the S, SL, and LE, with 2WD and AWD options. Options on the luxury side of the street include a large moonroof, power liftgate, and power folding rear seats. The intended visual impact of the new front end is described as "high tech." So successful was the initial design of the Murano that Nissan designers had to pull off a real design coup in order to best the old design. Lost on the Murano are some very striking lines and angles that brought a uniqueness to the initial crossover. Sadly, that styling definition has been lost, and in its place is a bulbous front end that goes nowhere..
The 2009 Nissan Murano has a lot to offer to shoppers in its segment. There may be SUVs out there with more inspired design that may step into the styling slot vacated by the new Murano.
